Bring a Valid Government-Issued Photo ID
The most important item to bring to your notary appointment is a current, government-issued photo ID. Acceptable forms of identification typically include a driver’s license, state-issued identification card, U.S. passport, or military ID. The name on your identification should closely match the name appearing on the document being notarized. Without proper identification, a notary cannot proceed with the notarization.
Bring Your Complete, Unsigned Documents
Please bring all pages of the document that require notarization, even if only one page contains the signature area. In most cases, documents should not be signed before meeting with the notary. The notary must witness the signature or receive an acknowledgment that the signature is yours, depending on the type of notarization required. If you are unsure whether to sign in advance, wait until your appointment and ask your notary for guidance.
Ensure All Signers Are Present and Prepared
Every person whose signature requires notarization must be present at the appointment and must be willing and able to understand the document they are signing.
